St. Mary's 14, Archbishop Spalding 7 (Friday)
Neil Lewnes ran 23 times for 131 yards to lead the Saints past the Cavaliers. Lewnes rushed in for what would be the deciding score from 2 yards out in the third quarter to put St. Mary's ahead 14-0, capping off an 80-yard drive that ate up over half of the quarter.
The Saints have now won three in a row and are 5-1 in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference and 5-4 overall. All three non-conference losses came to A Conference opponents.
St.Johns' 35, Friends 0 (Friday)
Lamont Wims was responsible for all of the points in the game. He took half of his 10 carries in for scores, while running for a total of 247 yards. The Vikings have outscored their C Conference opponents 156-14 in four games. Their only other conference shutout of the season was a 35-0 blanking of Baltimore Lutheran.
Loyola 31, Gilman 20 (Friday)
Loyola back-up quarterback Connor Bruns went 14-19 for 274 yards and four touchdowns including two to senior wide receiver Brandon Floyd to lead the Dons past the Greyhounds. Bruns was strong in stepping in for injured starter Leon Kinnard, who's out for the season. Gilman sophomore Darius Jennings returned the opening kickoff 79 yards to give the Greyhounds a 6-0 lead, but the Dons answered quickly with a 77-yard drive, capped off by a 47-yard touchdown pass from Bruns to Floyd. From then on, Loyola never looked back, improving to 8-0 on the year.
SOCCER
Friends 5, Glenelg Country 3 (Thursday)
After easily defeating the Dragons, 4-0, earlier this season at Friends, the Quakers needed to hold on for the win at Glenelg. Marrio Davis and Alex Klein each scored twice, with Davis' first goal coming in the first minute of the game off a Klein assist. Klein scored later in the half to put Friends up 2-0. The Dragons scored two goals, one on a penalty kick, in two minutes to tie the score, but the Quakers' John
Schmidt scored a goal in the half's final minute to put Friends ahead. That lead lasted only for a few minutes as the Dragons once again tied the game early in the second half. Klein put the Quakers ahead for good with a goal just after the halfway point of the half.
Gilman 2, Loyola 0 (Tuesday)
An own goal with 10:44 remaining in the first half was all the
Greyhounds needed to defeat Loyola and move closer to securing second place in the MIAA A Conference. In the second half, Ben Shriver gave Gilman an insurance goal on a direct kick. Gilman is now 8-3-2 and in second place, while Loyola remains in seventh place and out of the playoffs. The Dons lost Nick Nathan for the season with a dislocated ankle he suffered in the first half.
