MIAA Weekend In Review: Oct. 17-18

Football

Gilman 49, Boys' Latin 0 (Saturday)

Blake Countess scored three Gilman touchdowns (90-yard kick return, 15-yard pass from Giancarlo Simmons and a 48-yard pass from David Emala) in this non-conference game. Woody Williams had two scores (13- and 15-yard runs) as Gilman improved to 6-1 overall, 2-0 in MIAA A Conference. Marcus Holman returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown. Boys' Latin dropped to 3-4 overall.

Loyola 20, Mount St. Joseph 7 (Saturday)

Loyola scored the game's first three touchdowns -- all via the running game -- and its defense shut down the Mount St. Joseph attack to give the Dons the MIAA A Conference victory. Leon Kinnard scored on a 7-yard run but broke his leg and is out for the year. Terence Garvin (1-yard run) and Warren Kalkstein (1-yard run) both scored for Loyola (7-0 overall, 2-0 A Conference). The Gaels (4-2, 2-1) got a 4-yard touchdown run by Artis Holt.

St. Paul's 24, Spalding 9

Troy Jones threw three touchdowns -- two to Lance Roberts (71 yards and 3 yards) and a 2-yard pass to Sherrod Davis -- to lead St. Paul's (5-2 overall, 5-1 MIAA B Conference) to the conference win. Spalding (4-3, 4-1) got a 1-yard touchdown run from Nick Whittles.

Cardinal Gibbons 21, Severn 14 (Saturday)

Carlos Cromwell of Cardinal Gibbons caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Blake Thompson to break a 14-14 fourth-quarter tie and give the Crusaders an MIAA B Conference victory. Gibbons (2-5 overall, 2-4 B Conference) also got a touchdown from Garrett Jackson (3-yard pass from Thompson). Severn dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
