Spalding Football Tops Curley
Jordan Cohill scored the go-ahead touchdown in double overtime for Spalding, and the Cavaliers went on to defeat Curley, 27-20, Friday evening in a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference game.
After Cohill's touchdown and the successful extra point by Nick Kuhl, Spalding (now 2-2 overall, 2-0 in the conference) barely held on against Curley (3-1 overall and in the conference). On a fourth-and-10 from the 10-yard line, quarterback Mark Venable hooked up with Brandon Franke in the end zone, but Franke couldn't keep his feet in-bounds.
Spalding was down, 14-0, after the first quarter, but the Cavaliers' defense allowed the offense time to catch up, setting up a 14-14 tie going into overtime.
After Curley's Terrence Dandridge's one-yard touchdown carry to begin the first overtime session, Cohill forced double overtime with an 8-yard touchdown run. Both extra point attempts were no good.
Cohill finished the game with 12 carries for 53 yards and three touchdowns.

McDonogh Girls Get Revenge
The McDonogh girls' soccer team gained a measure of revenge with a 2-0 victory over St. Vincent Pallotti Thursday in a rematch of last year's Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference title game. Pallotti won last year's championship matchup.
But this time the Eagles, on the strength of an Ashley Spivey goal in the 29th minute and a late second-half insurance goal off the foot of Rachel Peltz, avenged their championship loss.
Coach Maurice Boylan's McDonogh team is now 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while Pallotti is now 3-2 and 1-2 in the conference.
The Eagles' defense limited the Panthers to only two shots on McDonogh goalie Ali Brennan.
McDonogh Boys Defeat Mount St. Joseph
McDonogh forward Julian Griggs' two goals lifted the Eagles to a 3-0 shutout over Mount St. Joseph last Tuesday evening in a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference soccer match.
The win put McDonogh at 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Gaels were set back to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Griggs, a sophomore, began the scoring at the 18-minute mark in the first half when he headed a Joe Vidmar feed into the back of the net. Griggs and Alex Grassi finished off the scoring.
