MIAA Alumni On The Move

Mount St. Joseph graduate Mark Teixeira and Towson Catholic alumnus Donte Greene both have something in common -- they've been traded in their respective professional sports recently.

Baseball's Atlanta Braves traded Teixeira to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim two weeks ago. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound first baseman batted .283 for the Braves in 103 games and 381 at-bats. He had 27 doubles, 20 home runs and 78 RBIs.

The deal was the Angels' big move at the July 31 trade deadline as Los Angeles makes a big push for a World Series title. Teixeira, one of five former Gaels in professional baseball, helps the Angels get another big bat in the lineup, one that can protect Vladimir Guerrero.

The big question, however, is where he'll be next year. The first baseman is a free agent at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Greene will also be switching addresses. The framework of a deal that would send Greene to the Sacramento Kings is reportedly complete.

The Kings are Greene's third team since draft night. He was originally drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies, who traded him to the Houston Rockets later on draft night. He played numerous summer league games with the Rockets before the deal to the Kings was reported.

The deal will be finished in the next few weeks.
