Mike Bordick's time with the Baltimore Orioles didn't see much winning.
But his time as part of the Maryland Interscholatic Athletic Association B Conference has been different. The Boys' Latin baseball team defeated Park, 3-2, Thursday at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen for the MIAA B Conference championship in Bordick's second season coaching the Lakers.
Boys' Latin finished 21-5 overall.
In Bordick's first season in 2007, top-seeded Boys' Latin lost in the championship round to St. Mary's. But this time around, the No. 1 Lakers took care of business in the first game of the championship round against Park and avoided the "if necessary" game.
Boys' Latin had to win just once over the Bruins, but Park had to defeat the Lakers twice because the Bruins had already lost once in the tournament. The tournament is double-elimination, and Park was playing from the loser's bracket.
Senior Devin Jerrard went the distance on the mound for the Lakers and gave up seven hits. Jerrard also had two hits, an RBI and a run.
Park's Tony DeMarco also went the distance, giving up eight hits.
Jerrard's fifth-inning sacrifice fly to score Paul Mellinger, who got on base with a double, put Boys' Latin up, 3-1. Park scored a run in the top of the sixth to make the score 3-2, but couldn't get any closer. The Bruins also scored a run in the third.
The Lakers scored twice in the first, with three singles and a sacrifice fly by Huntley Mitchell.

Aaron Gillette pitched a complete game six-hitter, and Beth Tfiloh scored five third-inning runs en route to a 7-3 victory over Sts. Peter and Paul, 7-3, May 14 to take the MIAA C Conference crown.
Beth Tfiloh finished 15-1 and ended the year with 15 straight wins.
The team had to win just one game over Sts. Peter and Paul to take the title, and Sts. Peter and Paul would had to win two games over Beth Tfiloh.
