Reds, Grizzlies Start Strong

The Roland Park Country School girls lacrosse season started off the 2008 season on the right foot, going 4-1 in the first five games.

The Reds have played consistently at both ends of the field. They’re averaging a little over 10 goals per game, having scored 51 in the first five contests.

Roland Park got off to a great start, winning its first four games before dropping a tough 9-8 decision to St. Mary’s on Thursday.

Senior Laura Simanski led the team with 17 goals through the first four games while senior goalie Jane Randall has gotten off to a great start with 36 saves so far.

Randall has been consistent and helped the Reds come up with victories in a few close games. Her best effort was a 12-save performance in Roland Park’s victory over Notre Dame Prep.

Caroline Seats also has helped on offense with four goals and three assists. Courtney Kirk has given the offense some firepower with five goals and seven assists.

Garrison Forest has been dominating the Y Division in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference with a 4-1 overall record.

The team is undefeated against conference opponents with their only loss coming in a 13-8 decision to St. Mary’s, the only team Roland Park fell to as well.

However, the Grizzlies have been strong defensively, allowing only 26 goals so far. The offense has been just as good, scoring 66 goals.

Sophomores Ana Henrich and Liza Blue are two of the players that have helped Garrison Forest on offense so far. Sophomore goalie Megan Mullan has been effective, helping the Grizzlies to their good start.
