John Carroll, Garrison Forest and Pallotti Win Titles

John Carroll’s winning of the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference lacrosse title was a mild surprise last year. Things were a little different this spring.

The Patriots went undefeated this year and capped their big season May 10 against McDonogh with an 11-6 victory at St. Paul’s.

Brittany Dashiell and Grace Gaeng each had three goals. Casey Ancarrow helped with had one goal and four assists.

Midfielder Ally Carey is usually the team’s top offensive threat, but McDonogh kept her scoreless. Still, she helped in her own way by winning six draws. Goalie Lauren McGehee finished with 10 saves.

Everything went right for the Patriots this spring, including a rout of the Mount Hebron powerhouse that sent the local lacrosse world buzzing.

GARRISON FOREST TAKES B TITLE

Garrison Forest scored the final three goals of the game to pull out a 13-10 victory over Park to take the IAAM B conference championship.

Alex Goldstein scored four goals including the goal that broke a 10-10 tie in the final quarter. Liza Blue and Ana Heinrich each scored two goals.

Garrison Forest won all of their conference games this season and had two big win streaks: a seven-game run plus a six-game win streak that ran through the playoffs and gave the Grizzlies the title.

PALLOTTI WINS C CROWN
St. Vincent Pallotti (10-4-1) edged two-time defending champion Baltimore Lutheran, 12-10, to take the C Conference title.

The Panthers took a 7-2 lead at halftime and then had to sweat out a tough second half where the Saints rallied to cut the lead to two. The comeback was shattered by a last-second save by Pallotti goalie Caroline Harvey. She ended the game with eight saves.

Carly Van Zanten and Michelle Moore both scored three goals to lead the Panthers with three goals as did Michelle Moore.

This was the third time the two schools faced each other this past season. Pallotti lost to Lutheran in their two previous encounters, 13-9 and 12-11.
