It has been an eventful last 10 months for Ally Carey, John Carroll’s outstanding senior lacrosse player. Last summer in Peterborough, Ontario, she helped the United States beat Australia, 18-3, to win the World Under-19 women’s lacrosse tournament.
Last weekend at St. Paul’s School in Brooklandville, she was a little closer to home as her John Carroll team beat McDonogh, 11-6, to win the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference championship.
The win nailed down an undefeated season for Krystin Porchella’s Patriots, who finished a perfect 18-0.
Carey helped John Carroll win 15 of 16 draws while Grace Gaeng and Brittany Dashiell scored three goals each, and Casey Ancarrow scored a goal and dished out four assists.
Archbishop Spalding didn't finish the year unbeaten, but coach Paul O'Brien's Cavaliers came close. Spalding beat the Institute of Notre Dame, 6-0, last Sunday to win the A Conference softball championship and finish the season 17-1. Elaine Nescio tossed a one-hit shutout, giving up the only hit to Jordan Driscoll with one out in the seventh inning.
Jennifer Rindone drove in two runs to pace the win while Delaney Bell, Casey O'Neill and Meghan Van Meter ended their senior seasons with their third conference championship in four years.
