Mount St. Joseph placed sixth and Calvert Hall finished 14th to cap off an impressive showing by Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association schools in the 120-team wrestling National Preps Tournament this past weekend at Lehigh University.
The Gaels earned 122 points behind Frankie Goodwin who, despite missing last week's Independent Schools State Tournament with an injury, placed second in his weight class. Teammates Karl Green and Edwin Jackson each finished fifth, and Danny Orem and Pat Downey each wrestled their way to sixth.
Bill Gialamas and Owen Smith contributed to Calvert Hall’s 56.5 points with fifth and sixth place finishes, respectively.
Archbishop Curley placed 20th with 45.5 points, thanks in large part to a fifth-place finish from Independent Schools champion Alex Przywara.
John Carroll finished 28th with 36 points, Loyola Blakefield came in 34th with 28 points, which was just enough to edge MIAA opponent Archbishop Spalding -- who had 26 points.
St.Paul's finished with 13 points, enough to tie for 56th place, while St.Mary’s (10.5 points) edged Boys' Latin by a half point to earn a 66th place finish.
McDonogh led all the MIAA teams with an impressive fourth-place finish. The Eagles dominated MIAA wrestling all season long.
