John Carroll Nabs Soccer Title

John Carroll made a few late-season changes that helped the Patriots win their first indoor soccer championship.

The Patriots scored three goals in the last 10 minutes to pull out a 5-3 victory over Maryvale Prep in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference championship at Du Burns Arena.

Brittany Dashiell led the Patriots with three goals. Paige Hollenback scored the Patriots’ other two goals. John Carroll had to rebound from deficits of 2-1 and 3-2 to get the win, using a pressure defense that gave the Patriots plenty of scoring chances in each game.

Dashiell and Jenn Etzel were selected to the A Conference All-Star team the same day.

The Patriots had a 9-1-2 record this past season, their only loss against undefeated Institute of Notre Dame. IND entered postseason play as the top seed, but defending champion Maryvale upset the Indians.

Baltimore Lutheran came back from a slow start to dominate the IAAM B Conference championship against Garrison Forest.

The Saints won 3-1 after losing last year’s title game to Garrison Forest (5-2).

Junior forward Casey Rusnak scored two goals in the game while senior Alora Gullivan added a goal and had an assist.

Lutheran had three players named to the B Conference All-Star team. Christine Brown, Aimee Chotikul and Jess Scoggins each were picked for the honor.

The Saints had a 7-2-2 record with their losses coming from the first two games of the season against St. Paul’s School for Girls and Garrison Forest.

St. Paul’s School for Girls had a good season as the Gators finished with a 6-3-3 record.

After starting the season with a 2-3-3 record, the Gators went on a four-game winning streak going into the playoffs. However, they lost in the playoffs to eventual A Conference runner-up Maryvale Prep, 3-1.
