The Institute of Notre Dame is looking to win an eighth straight Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference regular season title. The Indians also are seeking their seventh conference tournament championship in nine years.

The Indians have started the season 7-0, including a 3-2 win in a championship game rematch with defending champion Maryvale Prep at Du Burns Arena. Two seasons ago, Maryvale won the B Conference title, and last season the team moved up to the A Conference and promptly defeated five-time defending champion IND, 3-2, in the championship game.

IND started off the year with a 2-1 victory over St. Paul’s School for Girls, followed by a 5-2 beating of Glenelg Country School, and a 3-0 shutout of Friends. After the victory over Maryvale, the Indians defeated rival Notre Dame Prep 4-3, followed by a 6-0 rout of Roland Park and a 4-2 win over John Carroll.

A core group of seniors leads the Indians, including senior goalkeeper Lauren Vetock, Gabrielle Devaud, Danielle Sloman, Jordan Driscoll, Mara Hauf and Sabrina Mullaney. Junior Ellen Nicely and sophomore Ashley Cooper also contribute.

Garrison Forest has been the team to beat in the B2 division, starting off the season with an 8-1 record.

The Grizzlies have used plenty of offense with victories over Beth Tfiloh (6-1), a 2-1 win over Baltimore Lutheran, a rout of St. Timothy’s (9-0) and strong wins over Oldfields (4-1) and Bryn Mawr (10-4). They kept the offense going to push the record to 8-1, with the lone loss coming in a close game against St. Paul’s School for Girls.

The annual tournament takes place Feb. 1.
