The Garrison Forest girls basketball team is having much more fun this season than it did last.
The Grizzlies went just 7-13 last year, but have improved to 8-5 and second place in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland C Conference’s Y division.
The Grizzlies started the season with a four-game winning streak before losing four of their next five games. However, the Grizzlies rebounded to win three of four games.
Alexis Hairston leads the league in three-pointers with 3.86 average per game. She was also named a Player of the Week twice.

Bryn Mawr is struggling this season with a 7-8 record after recording a 19-7 season and second place in the IAAM B Conference last year.
The Mawrtians started the season with a four-game winning streak before Severn handed them a 60-31 loss.
Bryn Mawr then slid to a five-game losing streak before slowly bouncing back. The Mawrtians appear to have started to find their stride again as they’ve won two of their last four games, including their most recent game, a 42-30 victory over Garrison Forest.

St. Mary’s has had problems this season, sitting in last place in the IAAM A Conference’s Y division. The Saints are currently 5-11 overall and 0-8 in conference games.
The team recently snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 69-22 victory against St. John’s Catholic Prep. Despite a loss the following game, the Saints rebounded with a 60-54 win over McDonogh.
A likely reason for the Saints’ struggles is that there are no seniors on the team to provide leadership and experience. The roster includes three freshmen, Kelly Broussard, Anne Ray and Melanie Mocniak, who will use this season to learn for the future.
