Loyola Blakefield easily won the Frostbite Track and Field Invitational last Thursday at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover.
The Dons won with 76 points and beat out Winters Mill (from Carroll County) by 21 points, thanks in large part to the work of Joe Orsulak and John Davenport. Orsulak had one of the area's best performances of the week by earning three gold medals while Davenport came away with a gold and two silver medals.
Orsulak's honors came after winning the 500-meter dash with a time of 1 minute and 8.6 seconds along with running on Loyola's victorious 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams. He also got a silver medal in the 800 relay.
Davenport finished second in the 300 in 37.0. Brett Flurry won the 800 meter dash with a time of 2:02.80.
The McDonogh girls came in second overall while the boys took fifth place. The girls finished with 88 points, coming up short by 4.25 points.
McDonogh got a lot of help from several people. Nyerre Osiomwan won the triple jump, and Hannah Johnstone finished second in the shot put. Amanda Kimbers finished second in 55 dash. Madeline Dulac took second in the 3200.
Kristen Brown won the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.0 seconds. The 800 and 1,600 relay teams both came in third.
The McDonogh boys finished with 37 points, six behind fourth place finisher Middletown. J.P. Grant took second in the 55 dash. Demetrios Pagonis finished fourth in the 1,600 and the 3,200.
Rudy Johnson finished fifth in the high jump, and Robbie Owen ended up sixth in the pole vault. The Eagles also took fifth in the 800 relay.
