St. Paul's Goes After Cross Country Title

St. Paul’s School was a force to be reckoned with at the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association’s cross country championship meet at Oregon Ridge Park on Wednesday, taking second in the B Conference race.

Annapolis Area Christian School was the winner of the team title with 57 points, and Grisha Iventichev of Friends took the individual crown for the second straight year. But St. Paul’s came in second with 86 points after putting three runners in the top 20 on a cool and windy afternoon.

The Crusaders edged Friends (90) and Glenelg Country School (92), who finished third and fourth, respectively. Calvert Hall won its first A Conference title since 1999, easily beating Archbishop Spalding.

James Saylor was the top Crusader, finishing in sixth place among the B Conference runners with a time of 17 minutes and 59 seconds. Will Gore finished next, in eleventh place with a time of 18:12. Alex Murphy came in after that, in thirteenth place with a time of 18:30.

Paul Raccuglia and John Koo came later. Raccuglia ended up in 22nd place with a time of 19:14 while Koo took 34th with a time of 19:49.

Rounding out the rest of the St. Paul’s runners were Dan Ojard who came in 53rd at 20:31, and Zaccai Williams in 68th place at 21:25; neither of them scored points.
